Recap of our Elevating Nursing Wellbeing event hosted in September

In September our Workforce Wellbeing and Nursing program teams hosted an Elevating Nursing Wellbeing workshop for 20 nursing leaders from across Australia.

The event focussed on the foundations of developing shared awareness, advocacy and action for the wellbeing of Australia’s largest healthcare discipline. The keynote presentation set the stage by providing a lens for understanding burnout within healthcare and tools for leaders supporting staff wellbeing.  Fiona Fitzgerald, Workforce Wellbeing Knowledge Network lead and Rebecca Clarke, Nursing Program manager then spotlighted the importance of how Wellbeing Index data can be utilised to raise awareness and support advocacy for workforce wellbeing through their presentation of the Australian nursing data from the program.

The second half of the event showcased local nursing wellbeing innovations presented by 4 of the sites actively engaged in the Workforce Wellbeing program. It was fantastic to see lots of connection and collaboration being sparked across the tables through this knowledge sharing together.

We were fortunate to have Anna Thornton, Chief Nursing Officer from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare and Lucy Twigg, Assistant Director of Nursing at the Commonwealth Department of Health in attendance. This allowed the natural generation of conversation and reflections that focussed on the importance of integrating actions prioritising workforce wellbeing into the upcoming National Nursing Workforce Strategy and the review of the National Nursing Standards.

The synergy between workforce wellbeing and patient safety and quality flowed through beautifully into the Better Together event over the following two days providing some great cognitive links between the two events for many of the nursing leaders attending both.
